Description of the role

With a rapidly growing customer base and an expanding list of prospects, we require a more comprehensive and sophisticated approach to sales and marketing. To this end we are looking to recruit an experienced Business Development Manager to join our team. In this role, you will work with senior commercial, marketing and field staff within the company to develop appropriate systems, manage opportunities and generate new sales across the UK.

This role requires excellent project management and communication skills and the ability to work easily and credibly with a wide range of audiences, both internal and external to the company.

Typical activities will include:

  • maintaining and developing relationships with existing customers via meetings, telephone calls and emails
  • identifying new opportunities and visiting potential customers to prospect for new business
  • acting as a contact between the company and existing and potential markets
  • negotiating the terms of an agreement and closing sales
  • gathering market and customer information
  • representing the organisation at trade exhibitions, events and demonstrations
  • negotiating variations in price, delivery and specifications
  • advising on forthcoming product developments and discussing special promotions
  • recording sales and order information
  • reviewing own sales performance, aiming to meet or exceed targets
  • gaining a clear understanding of customers' businesses and requirements

Person profile

  • You will possess a demonstrated track record of initiative, creativity and motivation to achieve the highest standard of performance in previous roles.
  • You will have proven intellect and also possess the curiosity to learn and successfully sell a technology-led product.
  • You must possess exceptional written and verbal presentation skills and hold the ability to create compelling arguments and possess the credibility to manage discussions at the highest level.
  • You will be highly adept at handling sales processes.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and wish to develop your sales career is absolutely essential.
  • The confidence to speak with authority to a very wide range of managers, executives, doctors and other clinical staff, the media and key opinion leaders.

Essential skills

  • Previous experience as a sales / business development manager in the healthcare and / or ICT industries
  • Customer/client-focused
  • Organised with very effective time management skills
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to lead and coordinate the activities of a wide range of staff
  • Highly computer literate and uses sales database tracking programs
  • Strong negotiating skills and capacity
  • Strong written, verbal communication and listening skills

Desired skills

  • Has managed both in-house and field business development and/or sales staff
  • Has developed and executed tactical sales plans including quotas and account objectives

Qualifications

  • Good Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior experience in business development and relationship management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field an advantage
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS in England
