Executive Directors Roger Killen – Managing Director Prior to founding The Learning Clinic in early 2004, Roger was co-founder and Managing Director of Dr Foster Ltd, which rapidly became the market leader for research into medical outcomes. Roger invented and developed the Dr Foster clinical monitoring products and was responsible for their commercial exploitation within the NHS. Roger graduated in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from Birmingham University. He is a chartered engineer and spent his early career as a specialist measurement and control engineer on major hazard chemical plants with ICI. He has been owner/manager of several businesses since graduating with an MBA from Stanford Business School in California. Helen Glenister - Chief Operating Officer Helen is a qualified nurse with a background in infection control and has worked in the acute and community sectors, PCTs and SHAs, various national NHS bodies including the Department of Health as well as the private sector. Helen was Nursing Director at the Medical Devices Agency before joining the newly-founded NPSA as Director of Safer Practice in 2003. She led numerous patient safety programmes across the health sector and worked with WHO on various international patient safety solutions and in 2005 was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive. She joined Humana Europe in 2008 as Director of Health and Wellness and subsequently became Director of Operations, with responsibility for invoice validation, health and wellness, mental health and practice-based commissioning programmes. Helen holds a PhD and MBA, lectures widely, has published over 50 papers and is a visiting Professor at the European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey. Dr Peter Greengross – Medical Director Peter trained as an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon and public health physician. Prior to joining TLC he was Assistant Medical Director of the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. He joined HLSP, a global healthcare consultancy, and successfully established its UK business before working for Humana Europe as Director of Health & Wellness. Peter holds an MA in medical sciences from Cambridge University, an MSc in Public Health from London University and an MBA from London Business School. He qualified as a doctor at the London Hospital and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health. Roy Margolis – Technical Director Roy founded Tigerteam Software Ltd, a software development and consultancy firm, in 1999. In early 2005, Tigerteam became a wholly owned subsidiary of The Learning Clinic. Roy has broad experience of software and application development on wireless communication devices from his time as Head of Applications Development and Connectivity at Symbian – a joint venture between Psion, Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola and Matsushita – and of educational software from his time as Software Director at Dorling Kindersley Multimedia. Roy graduated from Cambridge in 1986 with a BA in Engineering. Non-Executive Directors Gordon Pollock – Chairman Gordon has been the Chairman of The Learning Clinic since its formation. He has held senior finance posts with health authorities in Scotland and England before moving to become Director of Finance and Information Services for the Jersey health service. Following a period with the Island’s regulator as Director of Financial Services Business, Gordon established his own consultancy business in 1998 specialising in risk management, compliance, investigation and training services. Gordon’s clients have included many of the top names in banking and financial services, as well as government departments and law enforcement agencies. Gordon has qualifications in accountancy, trust and estate practice. He was an original founder of The Learning Clinic with Roger Killen in 2004. Paul Marran – Non-Executive Director Paul is a private investor with over 20 years investment experience in technology, healthcare and business services. He is a non-Executive Director of Marran Oil and, previously, of Dione plc (payment technology), Pronosco (healthcare software), and Mosaic Software (banking and retail). In his past career, Paul was responsible for international business development and cash management for Federal Paper Board Company Inc, a Fortune 500 company, and subsequently was SVP of GE Equity, heading the European Financial Services and Healthcare Team. He is a graduate of Hamilton College and received an MBA with honours from Columbia Business School. Senior Team Kate Beaumont - Nurse Director Kate trained as a registered nurse and worked as a Sister in cardio-thoracic intensive care before becoming involved in nurse training and development. After working as Risk Manager at Salisbury Hospital she joined the National Patient Safety Agency in 2003 and progressed rapidly to become Head of NHS and Patient Engagement and latterly Head of Patient Safety leading on a wide range of national projects including the NPSA’s strategy for nursing and midwifery, patient and board engagement, international projects with the WHO, and revision of the NPSA misplaced nasogastric tube alert. Kate’s overwhelming passion is reducing harm from deterioration and she led work in this area for the NPSA from 2005. She was co-author of the 2007 NPSA report “Recognising and responding appropriately to early signs of deterioration in hospitalised patients”, is a member of the Patient Safety First campaign core team and led the 2010 NPSA “10 for 2010” deterioration programme. Jane Ansell – Managing Consultant Jane joined The Learning Clinic in July 2011 to head up our newly-formed consultancy division. She will be working directly with VitalPAC clients to help them reap the maximum benefits from the product. Jane is a highly experienced change consultant who has headed up a vast range of change management projects and programmes throughout her career. Formerly in the financial sector working on international corporate transformation programmes, seven years ago Jane was seconded to the Department of Health as the national programme manager for the four hour accident emergency delivery target and subsequently the national cancer wait delivery programme. Jane has since developed a notable expertise in the improvement of patient flow across healthcare systems. Su Patil – Finance Director Su has 12 years of strategy development and product development experience gained in the consumer goods industry working for Mars and Procter & Gamble. She spent two years working on commercial development for King's College Hospital before joining The Learning Clinic in early 2008. Su graduated from Cambridge University in 1993 with a BA in Natural Sciences. |
